The Fuzzy Chenille Plant

Chenille Plant

The Chenille plant is so beautiful anyone who has seen one knows exactly what I'm talking about, these tropical evergreen shrubs are a real show stopper with it's fuzzy red flowers.

The scientific name of plants is Acalypha hispidia and its other names that it is known by are Red hot Cat's Tail and foxtails.

The beautiful red fuzzy blooms on this fascinating plant can grow to be 1 to 1 1/2 feel long and the plant itself can grow any where up to 6 feet and will grow easily to 3 feet if being grown in a pot.

They prefer to be in full sun although they can tolerate partial shade.

Giving this Chenille a liquid fertilizer every other month will help guarantee red hot cats tail flowers year after year.

It also loves lots of water in a rich well draining soil. Don’t let the soil dry out completely before watering again.

Another benefit is to mist these types of evergreen shrubs it help to keep them happy and also keeps the bugs off them. Humidity is this plant s best friend so try to provide this for it as much as possible.

This plant is native to the Pacific islands which explains why it’s so exotic looking

This red tropical flower is also known as strawberry fire tail which completely makes sense once you look at it. Its fuzzy green leaves are complimented by 3 inch long wooly, fuzzy yet soft looking flowering catkins that will appear all season long.

If you snip the dead blossoms and the chenille plant will become fuller over time.

This exotic plant truly is a great tropical touch to any garden with its stunning flowers.

This plant is very easy to care for and it loves full sun, partial sun or light shade with heavy to moderate watering, there really isn’t much to do besides adding fertilizer every other month.
