Tropical Chinese Hat Plants

The tropical Chinese Hat, these types of flowering shrubs are another of the tropical evergreen plants that have beautiful deep red to rusty colors of orange, red and yellow tropical blossoms with a unique look.

As you can see by the picture below, when the trees are in full bloom they are full of color and Beautiful!

Easy to grow, these shrubs are also known as the Chinese parasol tree, cup and saucer plant and belongs to the Verbenaceae family and its botanical Scientific Name is Holmskioldia sanguinea Retz, say that 3 times, too much of a mouth full for me!

These are great Tropical flowers that attract hummingbirds, because of the color and taste it produces the hummingbirds really love'em.

There are ten species that are known of Holmskioldia, and are native to Asia and Africa.

The shrub or if you prefer tree, is evergreen in the tropics because of the warm moist tropical weather it is constantly in bloom with lots of green leaves the humidity of the tropics is what it loves more than anything.

This peculiar yet beautiful tree can also be trained to vine as high as 10 feet.

These flowers can be recognized because of the round cup-like bract at the base of a tubular flower. When all the flowers have fallen, the hat still remains. It is native to the Himalayas.

Recommended zones for growing are 10b - 11

It loves full sun to partial shade.

Moderate watering, except for in the winter.

To help produce more blooms add a liquid fertilizer or products like miracle-gro work time release pellets well also.
