The Colorful Duranta Repens

Duranta Repens

This incredibly beautiful tropical Duranta Repens with its bright orange berries brightens evergreen gardens like no other with color and the sweet smell of Vanilla thought your garden.

This Beauitful duranta plant is native to Tropical America, Central and South America, the West Indies and parts of Southern Florida.

There are several different lists of plant names including Duranta Repens, Duranta Erecta, Pigeon Berry, Golden Dewdrop, Honey Drops and Duranta erecta Alba the white flower version.

This flowering evergreen is grown as a sprawling shrub yet if left on its own will become a small tree that will grow up to approximately 8 feet possibly taller. It’s amazing how a plant is categorized as an evergreen shrub and a small tree.

These beautiful Duranta plants are a well kept secret by avid gardeners which is a shame, but hopefully by me helping to get the word out this will start to become a more common beauty in gardens all around the world, its beauty and incredible smell will add such an exotic look and smell to your garden, you'll never regret planting it in your garden or in a pot on your porch or patio.

You will be so glad that you decided to grow these amazingly beautiful and delicate purple flowers in your garden.

With its deep purple flowers laced with white around the edges and bright orange berries that cascade down like dripping dew drops adding such a beautiful colors to your garden.

These fast growing shrubs love to be in full sun although they can tolerate partial shade, the lack of sun doesn’t affect the growth, color or production of the purple blooms too much.

When you are watering make sure to soak it toughly but let it dry out between watering again, this plant is quite drought tolerant so neglect won’t hurt.

In Zones 9 to 11 this plant will live as an evergreen but if grow in zones below 9 the chances of it surviving winters are slim because this is a tropical plant, but don’t worry they will start to grow back into your garden as soon as spring comes around and your house and home garden will have that color and the smell of vanilla throughout again reminding you why you love this gorgeous plant so much!

The plus about these types of evergreen shrubs and trees are that they attract butterflies and the bright golden berries attract birds, not to mention the beautiful purple flowers that add burst of color to your garden.

Warning Also it is important when identifying evergreen shrubs like these to know that the berries this plant produces are poisonous to humans!
