These Beautiful Tropical Elephant Ear Plants are really beautiful broadleaf evergreen plants that are actually tropical rainforest plants, they are the perfect addition for adding an exotic look to your tropical garden.

These very interesting looking evergreen plants come in many different shapes, colors and varieties to fill your garden with an exotic look like no other broadleaf plants with these mysterious giant plants you'll feel as if you’re in the jungle or a tropical rainforest.

Elephant ears grow naturally in tropical and subtropical areas, but are easily found in northern climates as well.

The Amazing Alocasia Robusta (sarawak) The Largest Plant Known In The World.

Alocasia Robusta is the largest of the Elephant Ear Plants in the world, coming in second would be the Alocasia Macrorrhiza Borneo which is very close in size.

These tropical rainforest plants are giant plants with its leaves bigger than a grown adult. It’s so amazing to look at, can you imagine actually seeing one in person. They are thought to be the exact same plants that existed with the dinosaurs.

When I showed the pictures to one of my son's he thought it wasn't real and that I was playing a joke on him. It looks like something from a fairytale or from a movie. Check out the pictures, they’re amazing I think you'll enjoy them too!




Black Magic - Colocasia Esculenta

Black Magic is one of the most spectacular Colocasia plants ever with its dusty solid purple almost black leaves that are incredibly beautiful can grow up to 2 feet long, and prefers full sun to partial shade.

Black Magic grows to a giant clump up to 5-6 feet tall with an equally wide spread.






Jenningsii - Colocasia Affinis

Colocasia affinis 'Jenningsii,' is a Dwarf elephant Ear. It is also sometimes known as 'Black Caladium' or 'Princess Taro.

This dwarf plant is loved for it's perfectly shaped velvet textured charcoal leaf face with veining running down the center perfectly placed and a giant silver splatter in the center of each leaf looks like someone purposely put it there.

When this beautiful plant is fully mature it can reach 1.5 to 2ft




Illustris - Colocasia Antiquorum

I love the Colocasia antiquorum Illustris, also called Imperial Taro is a black-leaved elephant ear with striking vibrant emerald green veins. Isn't this beautiful....




Colocasia Fallax

Colocasia Fallax or Dwarf Elephant Ear is probably the easiest of all the elephant ears to grow.

These beautiful evergreen plants are ussually decorated throughout the summer with a small yellow spathe and spadix flowers. They can grow to about 20 inches tall and as wide as three feet but should spread faster in very wet soils by means of short above ground stolons... quite unique and very beautiful.




Giant Alocasia - Macrorrhiza Maki

This species of the Giant Alocasia or also known as Macrorrhiza Maki and Giant Taro, is a very striking architectural plant with huge upright, and has a lighter green running through the veins on the dark green glossy leaves is quite a site to see.

Growth rate during the summer months can be quite astonishing - the plant will grow up to 6 feet tall.




Ruffles - Colocasia Esculenta

The ruffles of an Elephant Ears huge dark green leaves with scalloped edges and olive colored stems, makes a huge and magnificent impact in any tropical landscape.

Ruffles is best grown in nutrien rich, wet soils, adn it is quite the vigorous grower and can grow as heigh as 6 feet. It will grow best in zones 7b-10 and prefers partial sun and shade.






Black Stem - Colocasia Fontanesii

Colocasia, Black Stem is a spectacular plant that adds such a dramatic and beautiful focal point in any garden.

Its giant purplish black stems can rise up to 7’ in height. The leaves are giant, deep olive green and heart shaped with a shiny, metallic or coppery sheen.

Very hardy, and one of the most reliable performers.

In late summer, the plant produces wonderful yellow aroid type flowers with a fragrance of papayas.


Elephant Ear specimens grow best in zones 7-10

Popular as annuals due to their rapid growth the colocasia makes a dramatic impact to any tropical garden, patio or when added to any landscape within just one season.

Home Care Wipe out the mouth with a cold, wet cloth and rinse with lots of cold water. Give milk to drink.
