Epidendrum plant care orchid

The Epidendrum orchids must have plenty of water... exspeically in the hottest time in the summer. Be sure that the medium you choose to grow your Epidendrum in will drain well because inproper drainage will cause the roots to rot and kill the whole plant.

The most common growing medium for an orchid is is fir bark with partite. Epidendrum can grow in just about any medium so long as the potting mix you use allows good drainage. Cant sau ti enough, this is very important.

These orchids will grow will in full sun in planter beds or pots as long as there is excellent drainage. Some hybrids need to be in the shade some of the day, especially during high noon whe the sun is the hottest.

Most orchids benefit from lots of humidity man created or natural. Always water the area around the plants both morning and night will work but you can buy humity trays or make your own by using an over sized saucer at the bottom of the plant fill it with small gravel,or decorative glass or rocks and fill it with water then place your pot on top of it this method works well, just keep water in the tray constantly.

Good air movement is very beneficial to most orchids, including epis.

All orchids will thrive and grow far more rapidly if fertilizer is regularly applied, both to the leaves as well as the roots. Using water soluble fertilizers, such as Hyponex, Miracle Grow, or other orchid fertilizers at least twice a month will produce some remarkable plants and flowers.

Slow release fertilizers should be used on the media around the roots.

With this species of orchids water them heavy then let it dry almost completely before watering again.

Never let orchids stand in a container of water at any time. Orchids are air plants and do not like to have their roots kept in water. It is better to keep it on the dry side than to give them too much water.
