Tropical Flowering Lantana Plants

Lantana Plants

The Lantana plants come in so many varieties of colors. These types of evergreen are fast growing shrubs with colorful blooms that will brighten any evergreen gardens that it’s planted in.

The lantana plant is native to South America and grows throughout in the tropical world.

The flowers of this plant grow on stems that shoot out from its evergreen leaves in clusters of tiny beautiful yet detailed, delicate colored flowers that are fragrant.

The life cycle of a plant like the Lantana is continual with its leaves always forming and flowers will continually bloom all most nonstop where the weather is more like its natural tropical habitat, or places that don’t get frost in the winter.

But the good news is if you do live where there is frost or snow in the winter, even if the lantana dies back it will start to grow again in the spring.

These tropical shrubs come in many colors and here is a list of plant names for the Lantana with shrub pictures of the flowering lantana

These beautiful blooming shrubs have more than 100 species here are a few that I can name.

Lantana Desert Sunset that has gold, a peachy orange and a deep bright pink flowers.

Lantana Mozelle has rose color and soft yellow then the colors deepen to deep rose and bright yellow orange color.

My favorite is the Lantana Pink Caprice that when first opens its buds with a soft pink then the color changes to pale yellow then at full bloom they are a rich shade of pink-rose.

Next is Lantana Red Spread which its outer deep red flowers that then yellow flowers scattered within that quickly fade to red.

Then the Lantana Camara with its bright orange and red-orange flowers are bright and spectacular.

How Do Plants Grow?

Remember the Lantana Plants love lots of sun with partial shade and can be quite an invasive plant so trim your plant to keep it where you want it.

It is drought resistant but to have a full green shrub with lots of flowers its best to give it lots of water in a well draining soil. They are also very salt tolerant and can grow very well in planters.

Over watering and constant soaking will deplete the plat of its foliage and blooms.

Humming birds, butterflies and bees love these beautiful types of evergreen shrubs.

There is one of the flowering lantanas that is actually used as a ground cover because it spreads out by creeping stems which can reach up to 13 feet wide. This one is called Lantana Montevidensis and it has beautiful soft pink and yellow flowers.
