The Incredible Shrimp Plant

Shrimp Plant

This beautiful shrimp plant comes in yellow and naturally a shrimp pinkish, rusty color that’s amazing, this incredible tropical rainforest plants also constantly blooms, which is such a wonderful gift this plant gives its owners.

The Pink version of this flower is known as pachystachys Lutea and the yellow version is known as Justicia Brandegeana. You’ll be able to see these exotic tropical pictures of plants of this species just for you.

I know some may think that since its called a shrimp plant that it might produce shrimp, well it does just not the crawling at the bottom of the ocean type, it produces incredible blooms that resemble shrimp and are so enjoyable to grow and look at.

These beautiful exotic shrimp plants are extraordinary growers and can get up to three feet tall. Although I recommend that you cut or prune it back when you start to notice that it’s getting a bit straggly or cut off any dead flowers or leaves. This will only encourage thinker more dense plants that will produce even more blooms for your tropical garden.

For the optimum growth of this plant it should be planted in zones 9 through 11.

If it is going to be in direct sunlight it can only really tolerate the morning sun until it starts to hit high noon it should be in the shade. So watch the sun in your garden and its movement throughout the day before you plant it to insure ling life of your pink Justicia Brandegeana or your yellow pachystachys Lutea.

Having a well drained soil is important for these tropical rainforest plants and a rich nutrient organic soil simulates its natural habitats rainforest soil that it loves to thrive in.

Fertilizing is very important for this plant that is used to a very rich soil so I suggest either a time released pellets to be used every 3 months or a liquid all purpose fertilizer to be used every other month.

You'll be happy you followed these simple instructions once you see your plant constantly blooming.

Also remember you can plant these in pots for your deck or patio, I'm not sure if it can be grown indoors and look great but if your willing to try, go for it.
